The rainy and gloomy conditions forecast for Saturday will cede the skies to sunshine for a warm, breezy Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

A 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms will persist Friday evening, when patches of fog are also anticipated across Long Island, according to meteorologist Jay Engle with the weather service’s Upton office.

The weekend will start off “unsettled and humid,” Engle said. He added that the Saturday forecast calls for “an ongoing 30% chance of showers and storms,” most likely in the mid- to late-morning and the afternoon and early evening. Fog will also form during the morning hours before the high temperature reaches the mid-70s. Humidity should drop Saturday evening.

Sunday will be “a beautiful day” with a light wind blowing from the west and temperatures in the low 70s, Engel said. Sunshine will prevail Monday and Tuesday, when highs will climb to the low 70s and the high 60s respectively.

Rain is predicted to return to Long Island the back half of next week starting Wednesday, when the weather service forecasts a 50% chance of showers.
