The Jets released veteran kicker Greg Zuerlein on Friday.
This transaction came three days after the Jets moved on from veteran punter Thomas Morstead as the new regime continues somewhat of a youth movement. Only three players on the current roster are 30 years old or older — quarterback Tyrod Taylor (35), long snapper Thomas Hennessy (30) and receiver Josh Reynolds (30).
Additionally, the Jets also signed undrafted rookie free agent defensive end Michael Fletcher.
Zuerlein, 37, spent three seasons with the Jets. His best year was 2023 when he made 35 of 38 field-goal attempts (92.1%). He struggled last year, though. Zuerlein missed key field goals and an extra point early in the year and was 9-for-15 (60%) overall. He had two stints on injured reserve, where he ended the season.
The Jets still have two kickers on the roster: Anders Carlson and Caden Davis.
Carlson kicked for the Jets for five games. He was 8-for-10 on field goals and 9-for-11 on extra points. Carlson has also kicked for the Packers and 49ers.
Davis is an undrafted rookie free agent who signed with the Jets two weeks ago. He started his collegiate career at Texas A&M before transferring to Ole Miss.
Fletcher (6-6, 260 pounds) appeared in 45 games for Michigan State and Appalachian State. He totaled 71 tackles and 11½ sacks.
